About the WSO

About the WSOThe Washington Symphony Orchestra was founded in early 2002 by Marianna resident Dave Owens. Music Director Owens had a vision for an exceptional orchestra that would be supported by the greater Washington community and that would, in return, enhance the quality of life in the Washington County area.

The Orchestra’s first rehearsal took place in April of 2002, and was attended by twenty-four musicians. Soon, the Orchestra had grown to a full symphony of over 50 musicians performing pops, classical and light classical music for the tri-state’s residents and visitors.

Dr. Yugo Sava Ikach was named WSO Music Director in 2005. His boundless enthusiasm for his art, his community and his Orchestra family inspire musicians and audience alike at every WSO event.

The Orchestra performs at the Olin Fine Arts Center on the Washington & Jefferson College Campus, where its regular season concerts are held in the 485-seat theater.

The Orchestra is proud to begin its new season continuing its mission “to engage the community by providing accessible, quality musical performances that entertain, educate and inspire.”
